A solemn condolence meeting was held at Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) to pay tribute to the educational, administrative, and welfare services of former Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Asif Iqbal (late).
Professor Dr. Asif Iqbal joined Government College University Faisalabad in 2003 as its first Vice Chancellor and, during his four-year tenure, laid a strong foundation for the institution through his remarkable leadership skills. His tenure is regarded as a milestone in the history of GCUF.
The condolence meeting was attended by the late professor’s family members, former colleagues, current Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Rauf-i-Azam, university deans, directors, heads of departments, faculty members, administrative officers, and various academic and social figures.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Rauf-i-Azam said that Dr. Asif Iqbal was not only an experienced educationist but also a visionary leader. He laid the foundation for the development of GCUF, upon which the university today stands among the leading institutions not only in Punjab but across Pakistan.
Dr. Asif Iqbal’s daughter also shared her thoughts, beautifully highlighting aspects of his personal life, principled nature, and strong family values.
Director of Career Counseling and Alumni Affairs, Dr. Abdul Qadir Mushtaq, shed light on Dr. Asif Iqbal’s academic contributions and his welfare policies for students.
Former Chairman of the Arabic Department, Dr. Ijaz Farooq, said that Dr. Asif Iqbal was a man of many virtues. He was cheerful, kind-hearted, humorous, and humble — a personality whose absence will be felt for years to come.
The meeting also featured reflections from Dr. Ali Usman, Dr. Hassan Sanwal, and Dr. Majid Mushtaq.
The session concluded with a recitation of Fatiha and a special prayer for the departed soul. Attendees prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased, the elevation of his ranks in the hereafter, and patience for the bereaved family.
