GCUF Holds Seminar on Causes, Health Impacts and Prevention of Smog

Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF), in collaboration with the Green Youth Movement Club and the Department of Environmental Sciences, organized an awareness seminar on Causes of Smog, Its Impact on Human Health and Preventive Measures. The seminar brought together experts who highlighted the major causes of smog, environmental pollution, its impact on human health and practical measures for its prevention and control.
Vice Chancellor GCUF Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam, while addressing the seminar, emphasised the important role of educational institutions in addressing environmental challenges. He stressed the need to sensitise young people about environmental protection and encourage their active participation in environmental conservation initiatives.
Prof. Dr. Sabir Hussain, Focal Person, Green Youth Movement Club, welcomed the participants. Chairperson, Department of Environmental Sciences, Prof. Dr. Tahira Yasmeen, spoke about the causes and contributing environmental factors behind smog, while Director Student Affairs Prof. Dr. Nadeem Sohail highlighted social attitudes and collective responsibility in addressing the issue.
During the technical session, Deputy Director, Environmental Protection Agency, Dr. Tahir Abbas, delivered a talk on “Causes of Smog and Impacts of Urban Development”, highlighting measures being taken to control and mitigate smog. Associate Professor, Faisalabad Medical University, Dr. Shoaib Ahmad Malik, discussed “Smog and Human Health: The Risks We Do Not Feel Through Breathing”, focusing on its impact on human health, particularly the respiratory system, and necessary precautions.
The seminar concluded with an awareness walk. The Environmental Protection Agency also demonstrated the practical use of a smog gun for controlling and mitigating smog. The seminar provided students and faculty with an opportunity to better understand the causes, impacts and preventive measures related to smog and environmental pollution.
