GCUF and ABA Center Join Hands for Autism Awareness and Community Support

A two-day autism awareness event was organized by the Department of Applied Psychology at Government College University Faisalabad in collaboration with the ABA Center, aimed at promoting early identification and improved understanding of developmental disorders.
The first day featured a free screening camp for the children of university faculty and staff members. Professional teams conducted screenings for autism spectrum disorder and related conditions, including ADHD, Down syndrome, speech delays, and motor development issues. The Dean of Arts and Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Asim Mahmood, visited the camp and emphasized the need to expand such initiatives to a wider community in order to reduce stigma and normalize early assessment practices.
The second day commenced with an autism awareness walk, in which the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam, participated alongside faculty members, chairpersons, and students, reflecting strong institutional commitment to awareness and inclusion. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Rauf-i-Azam, also highlighted the importance of such assessment and recurring sessions for the betterment of the faculty.
Following the walk, a series of academic seminars was conducted for students of applied psychology. The resource persons for the seminars included Mr. Abaid Ullah, a PhD scholar, behavior analyst, and Clinical Director at the ABA Center, and Mr. Kashif Manzoor, a behavior analyst affiliated with the Maryam Nawaz School and Resource Center for Autism. The sessions focused on autism diagnosis, intervention planning, and early screening strategies. Addressing the seminar, Dr. Khalid Mahmood Bhatti The Chairperson of the department, thanked the CEO of the ABA Center, Mr. Usman, for their collaboration, while also appreciating the efforts of the organizing team in making the event possible. The event concluded with an interactive discussion followed by a tea gathering, marking the end of a comprehensive awareness and training initiative.
