On May 22, 2025 , Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) buzzed with energy as scientists, students, and eco-champions gathered for the International Symposium on International Day for Biological Diversity 2025 (ISIDBD-2025)! Together, we explored how biodiversity can solve the planet’s biggest challenges—climate change, hunger, and sustainability.

Climate Action & Biodiversity

Prof. Dr. Naeem Iqbal warned: “Losing species means losing survival tools. Pakistan’s forests, wetlands, and deserts hold the keys to resilience!”

Tech to the Rescue!

Dr. Aftab Ahmad (Oman) wowed the crowd with CRISPR-Cas gene editing’s potential to grow crops in droughts and salty soils.

Wastewater = Resource?

Dr. Petros Gikas (Greece) showed how treated wastewater can recharge groundwater and irrigate farms.

Vitamin Boost for Crops!

Dr. Shaghufa Parveen’s study on vitamin B2-treated maize highlights possible achievement of SDG-2 by  farming in saline-prone areas.

🎓 Student Power!

Over 100 students showcased innovative posters on biodiversity conservation. Future scientists got information and ideas about sustainable agriculture and biotech!

This symposium wasn’t just talks—it was a roadmap for Pakistan’s green future! By protecting biodiversity, we can:
