Islamic Studies
Vision
To deliver an advanced knowledge and understanding of classical and modern Islamic religious thoughts in order to promote Islamic values among the students and to develop the capacity of the scholars to respond the contemporary challenges according to Islamic teachings. It is also aimed to restore the full meaning of education by offering an opportunity to study, comprehensively and critically, the syllabus of a classical education in the Islamic sciences sensitively adapted for our time.
Mission
The aims of the programs offered in the Islamic Studies are:
To present Islam as manifested in the Holy Quran and Sunnah.
To engage students in exploring primary texts, history, global Muslim communities and the regional issues of the Islamic world.
To provide the closer look at the various histories of Islam in places such as the middle east, Africa, south Asia and Europe.
To promote the skills to perform the duties in legislation, research, management, teaching and Islamic Banking.
To promote the tolerance, brotherhood, unity among the Muslim Ummah, moderation, broad-mindedness love with mortal and other Islamic values, through academic activities.
To enable graduates to achieve high-level professional objectives and assume leadership roles by acquiring up-to-date knowledge and advanced skills
To enable students to develop critical thinking skills, and impart to them the values of lifelong learning
Introduction
The Department of Islamic Studies is one of the foremost academic components of Government College University, Faisalabad. The subject of Islamic Studies was introduced in the 1955-56 academic year with the name “Deeniyat”. Mr. Abdullah Kamil and Prof. Iftikhar Ahmad Chishti played an important role as pioneer teachers of the department. Later on, the Department of Islamic Studies was established in 1985, where leading academicians served the department. The alumni of this department have been serving in various institutions in the country and abroad. Presently, the department is offering four programs in Islamic Studies, including BS, MPhil, and PhD. A research journal titled “Zia-e-Tahqeeq” (HEC Recognized) has also been launched for quality research. Furthermore, the “Rahmatul-lil-Alameen Chair” for studying Seerah and the “Tasawwuf Study Center” have been established in the department for promoting moral values, harmony, and peace in society. The department has organized many national and international conferences and workshops on various topics, including Quranic Studies, Hadith and Seerah Studies, Interfaith Dialogue and harmony, Sufism, and Muslim culture and history.
