Environmental Sciences
Vision
The Department of Environmental Sciences envisions quality education through collaborative multi-disciplinary modules and innovative research avenues to address current environmental issues and prospect future challenges for sustainable development.
Mission
Our mission is to emerge as a premier center peculiar to learning, and research that will provide solutions to multi fold environmental challenges for the betterment of society. The degree programs are aimed to develop qualified human resources with strong theoretical and practical knowledge of basic and applied aspects of Environmental Science. Courses for various degree programs have been designed to deliver state of-the-art information and practical expertise that would enable graduates to effectively address local to global environmental issues.
Introduction
Environmental science is an interdisciplinary academic field to study the complex interaction of human activities and the environment. The degree programs offered at the Department of Environmental Sciences bridge the gap between various basic and applied science disciplines to meet the challenges of 21st century through advanced research and training. It is, therefore, necessary to develop research facilities in order to cope with future demands by engaging in multidisciplinary research. Researchers of this department are exploring the fields of bioremediation, wastewater treatment, environmental biogeochemistry, soil carbon sequestration, climate change, waste management, environmental impact assessment, environmental management systems, natural resources management, air pollution and other environment related issues. For conducting the research on different aspects, the Department of Environmental Sciences has established the following research laboratories:
Env-Lab-1 Environmental Biogeochemistry Lab
Env-Lab-2 Ecological Systems Lab
Env-Lab-3 Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology Lab
Env-Lab-4 Rhizosphere Biogeochemistry Lab
Env-Lab-5 Environmental Chemistry and Toxicology Lab
Env-Lab-6 Land, Air and Water Research Lab
Env-Lab-7 Environmental Nanotechnology and Biochar Lab
Env-Lab-8 Atmospheric Chemistry and Climatology Lab
Env-Lab-9 Undergraduate Lab
In addition to these laboratories, the Department of Environmental Sciences also established a weather station in the Old Campus of the university in collaboration with Alterra, Wageningen, Netherlands. The data from this weather station is used in various fields of life and natural sciences. For research purpose, the Department of Environmental Sciences collaborates with different national and international institutions.
