Vision
Department of Arabic aims to prepare specialists in the field of Arabic Language, Literature and Translation Studies to fulfill the contemporary linguistic, cultural, social, economic and religious requirements.
Mission
The Department of Arabic offers quality education to its students. It is committed to enhancing their knowledge, fostering their Islamic values and training them on scientific thinking skills and research methods. It imparts academic excellence and attracts students and researchers from around the world. The Department provides its students competencies in the field of teaching and learning Arabic Language for non-native speakers. The Department keeps its academic and research Programs in line with contemporary requirements. Arabic language is used as a medium for cultural, academic and educational interaction.
Introduction
The Department was established in1976 by the distinguished scholar Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ishaq Qureshi. It is worth mentioning that this is one of the oldest Departments of the University. Teaching of MA Arabic was started in 1986 and MPhil Arabic was launched in 2002 and PhD Arabic in 2005. Besides indigenous students, several scholars have obtained their M. Phil and PhD degrees from the Department. In addition to the Department is committed to the promotion of research activities by conducting national and international conferences, seminars and workshops. The teaching staff focuses on modern functional Arabic language. It is possible to strengthen Oriental and local languages to bring them closer to one another on the basis of Arabic grammar vocabulary and Literature.
Objectives
The major objective of the Department is to help the student achieve high levels of proficiency in modern Arabic Language. The Department offers numerous enlightening courses such as Modern Muslim World, Contemporary Linguistic Issues, Arabic Electronic and Print Media to build a strong foundation of language proficiency and cultural understanding of different fields including literature, linguistics, art, history and religion. We believe we can make the Arabic language interesting for our students, and enable them to communicate with the community around them in Arabic World. Reading, writing, speaking, and listening are core issues for appropriate communication. We aim to develop the students’ potential to use their literary skills effectively. Arabic is considered one of the oldest languages in the world with a wealth of knowledge. Today Arabic is the official Language of 26 countries and is spoken by 280 million people worldwide. Arabic Language is one of the six UN official Languages: China, French, English Arabic, Spanish, and Russian. The Department aims to produce such scholars as would be able to render their services internationally in various fields.
