Enhancing Academic Standards: Best Practices in Student Assessment and Evaluation Organized by Departmental Quality Circle, Department of Islamic Studies

Under its Departmental Quality Circle, the Department of Islamic Studies, Government College University Faisalabad, organized a faculty seminar titled Enhancing Academic Standards: Best Practices in Student Assessment and Evaluation. The esteemed resource person for the session was Prof. Dr. Asim Mansha, Director of the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC), GCUF.

The Seminar commenced with a welcome note by Dr. Yasir Arfat, Chairman, Department of Islamic Studies. In his address, Dr. Arfat warmly welcomed the resource person and highlighted the objectives and significance of the seminar. He emphasized that, under the dynamic leadership of the Vice Chancellor, the university is committed to achieving academic excellence. He noted that this seminar is part of the broader vision to align GCUF’s academic practices with those of top-ranked educational institutions.

Prof. Dr. Asim Mansha delivered an insightful and engaging presentation. He began by stressing the importance of such seminars in the current educational landscape. Dr. Mansha discussed Bloom’s Taxonomy and its application in designing effective assessment tools. He elaborated on both formative and summative evaluation methods and introduced various modern techniques being adopted in higher education for student assessment.

The seminar concluded with remarks by Prof. Dr. Humayun Abbas Shams, Dean, Faculty of Islamic and Oriental Learning. Dr. Shams emphasized the role of self-assessment among teachers, stating that effective evaluation begins with honest reflection. He noted that the integrity of assessment processes is crucial in determining whether intended learning outcomes are being achieved in their true spirit.
